CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Generation West Virginia (Generation WV) - the statewide organization dedicated to attracting and retaining young talent in the Mountain State - is hosting a press conference on Wednesday, December 19th at 10 a.m. on the second floor lobby of the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center to announce the launch of year three of the Impact Fellowship Program.  The press conference will mark the official opening of applications for the  26 paid fellowship positions at  15 participating host companies from across the state.
Generation WV’s Impact Fellowship Program, recognized as a World Changing Idea Finalist in 2018 by FastCompany, works to strengthen West Virginia’s talent pipeline by offering year long, paid fellowship opportunities to connect young people from across West Virginia and across the country with innovative jobs that allow them to stay or choose West Virginia as their home. Since launching in January 2017,  the program has created 43 jobs and has received nearly 500 applications.

WHY: According to Census data, West Virginia loses 41 people every day. Companies struggle to find qualified candidates with the skills they need, and young people struggle to find good, quality jobs to allow them to stay in the Mountain State. This declining population threatens the state's tax base and without sufficient access to a qualified workforce, the state is limited in its ability to attract new employers. Generation WV's Impact Fellowship is solving this problem from both sides of the equation, connecting West Virginians with quality jobs and connecting West Virginia employers with quality talent.
