Get to Know Core10: Alex Griffiths

Where is the best place you can think of to receive a call with a job offer? Maybe it is surrounded by your loved ones or while taking a stroll through the park.  

For one of our team members, he received that call at the “happiest place on earth”, Disney World. Alex Griffiths was standing in line at the “It's Tough to be a Bug!” attraction at Animal Kingdom when we offered him the opportunity to launch his career at Core10. We are glad Alex answered that phone call and that he now says that he is on the ride of his life as a Core10 Software Engineer 3.

What is your role at Core10?  

My role at Core10 is Software Development Engineer 3, I work primarily in ICE Integrations and custom software.    

How long have you been with Core10?  

 7 months 

How did you hear about Core10?  

I was at Disney World when a recruiter called me while I was standing in line for “It’s a bugs life” in Animal Kingdom. 

Why did you choose to work at Core10?   

I chose to work at Core10 because we are passionate about finding new solutions to complicated, age-old problems. I was excited about the opportunity to work with technologies that most other companies would shy away from. 

What did you do before joining the team?   

Before joining Core10, I worked as a software engineer for many other companies, startups, and even did freelance work on the side.  

I worked with a lot of technology within the financial realm before coming to Core10, including some crypto-currency-based payment solutions that were really exciting and somewhat unheard of at the time. 

What got you interested in a career in software development?  

Most of my family are software developers for some relatively big-name companies, such as the BBC. I grew up in a house where I had all the tools and information to pursue this career from a very young age. Both of my parents are engineers, so I was brought up in a household that molded me to always ask questions about how things are built, and how things get done efficiently and optimally. 

What is your favorite project you have worked on at Core10?  

Anything with Danielle, she’s the best. But if I had to pick a specific project, I would choose the custom software project MEFA. The clients are incredibly understanding, easy to work with, and a blast to communicate with. 

Tell us about your life outside of Core10… Family life? Pets? Hobbies?  

I live with my two cats, Casper and Egg Roll. I wanted to name Egg Roll “🥚” but the vet didn’t think she could put an emoji in her form. In my free time, I’m more than likely browsing tech forums, competing in CTFs, or reading about new technologies, but if I’m not in front of a screen, I’m practicing mixology.   

What is something other people find most surprising to learn about you?  

The thing that most people get surprised to learn about me is that I was born in the United Kingdom, and I am a dual citizen. 

What is your favorite thing about Nashville?   

My favorite thing about Nashville is the food. The music is nice, but the food is the real treasure. 

Why did you choose to stay there?   

The very little family I have in the US also live in the Nashville area.
