A little over a year ago, Core10 started writing Employee Spotlights each month. We recognized that each of our team members holds unique stories and experiences that are worth sharing.
This month, we are delighted to highlight Beth Hurter, a Core10 Senior Project Manager on our Jack Henry team. Beth has lived a rich life, from years of experience in software development to starting her own software development company. On the personal side, Beth has a husband, three children, and eight grandchildren!
"Beth has worn multiple hats since she joined the Jack Henry project. She is a versatile team member who can quickly pivot and serve in different capacities to ensure project success. Beth created reports for the entire project that are being used through the management team of the project and has become a trusted team member for resourcing items, process improvement and overall pulse of the project."
-Tony Nigrelli, VP of Customer Experience
Beth is a powerhouse at Core10. We are thrilled that she is part of the Core10 community. Keep reading to learn more about Beth!
I am a senior project manager, currently assigned to our Jack Henry team. I fulfill both project and product management roles.
I have been with Core10 since January 2021.
I heard about Core10 from its Co-Founder and President, Lee Farabaugh. Lee and I go way back. Years ago, we were working at a company together until Lee left to pursue starting Core10. We stayed in contact throughout the years, which eventually led to an opportunity to work for Core10.
It was a combination of things: the opportunity to work with Lee again was a key factor, along with the challenge of leading a large project and learning a new industry.
I have been in software development in one form or fashion for my entire career. I worked in the Space and Defense industry for
over 15 years and then transitioned into Healthcare IT. I have contributed in all areas of software development, from writing code, to testing and building out requirements. I am a Certified Scrum Product Owner and am passionate about all things product. Prior to joining Core10, I was a product owner/product manager in healthcare IT.
I graduated from Murray State University, in Murray, Kentucky.
I studied Engineering Physics with an emphasis in computer science.
I was a wildlife biology major at Murray State. My advisor recommended I take an introductory computer science class because he felt that everyone should know the fundamentals of programming. I fell in love with software development and changed my major that semester!
I have only worked on one project – Jack Henry Financial Crimes Defender. It is a great green-field project, rebuilding existing functionality that will take their product line to the next level.
Family: I have 3 grown children and 8 grandchildren. I am very active with my grands and spend a lot of time at the ballpark. I love watching kids play baseball and softball.
Pets: I have a small yorkie-poo named Sadie Waddlebutt, and two Maine Coon cats – Thackery Binx and Merlin. If you ever get a cryptic message from me, chances are one of my cats has walked across my keyboard. They have also been known to put “play dates” on my calendar!
Hobbies: I love to sew. I make Halloween costumes for the grands and am also an avid quilter. I love taking fabric that you would never put together and turning it into something beautiful. I cannot count the number of quilts I have made and gifted in the past 10 years. At some point, I will make one for myself!
I also love gardening, wildlife, and photography.
I have been a Sunday School teacher, Girl Scout Leader, and mentor to young women in need.
I built my own software company and took a software product to market in the early 2000’s. We distributed over 1 million licenses and won multiple awards. I also had the opportunity to work as a contractor with NASA on the International Space Station, and have worked with Gene Kranz (Apollo 13 – “Failure is not an option”) on occasion.
I live and work in the Huntsville, Alabama area. We settled here in the early 80’s and it is now home. I love that Huntsville is a high-tech area, has a lot of benefits of a large city, yet allows us to live in the surrounding country and have the best of both worlds.
Family. When the kids were little, Huntsville was less than a 4 hour's drive to my family and to my husband’s family but allowed us both to stay in the high-tech industry. Now that the kids are grown, we still stay for family, since 2 of our 3 adult children and 6 of our 8 grandchildren are in the Huntsville area.
Roll Tide!
