Get to Know Core10: Robert Rayburn | Core10

When starting a business, one of the first things you realize is that you cannot do it alone. It truly takes a village to get a business off the ground and scale. If we have learned anything throughout Core10’s existence it is the value of partnerships. When businesses leverage partnerships, they forge connections that create a talent pipeline, invitations to mentor students, and opportunities to give back to communities. 

So, when we ask our team members, “How did you hear about Core10?,” and they reply with “Oh, through my professor’s lecture”, or better yet, “When you all visited my college’s career fair,” we are thrilled. 

We recently had the opportunity to catch up with Robert Rayburn, a Core10 Engineer II who found us through his advisors at The University of TN at Martin. We are thankful that UT Martin gave us one of their best and brightest who has now become a talented and valuable team member.

So, let’s dive into it. Take a few minutes to learn about Robert.  

How long have you been with Core10?

3 years

How did you hear about Core10?

Though my advisor at the University of TN at Martin.

Why did you choose to work at Core10?

I liked the environment that is promoted and the idea of getting to explore different projects without having to go through a hiring process. They also provide me with the ability to work from home, which has given me the chance to stay in our community that we love.

What did you do before joining the team?

I was a software developer for another company that created platforms for different kinds of learning systems to post their content.

Where did you go to school?

The University of TN at Martin

What did you study?

Computer Science

What got you interested in a career in software development?

I have always liked building things as a kid, and I thought it was cool how you could build applications and algorithms with programming.

What is your favorite project you have worked on at Core10?

So far, I have enjoyed working with our Moonshot clients and helping them build out new structures from their legacy software.

Tell us about your life outside of Core10... Family life? Pets? Hobbies?

I am married to my wife, Kalena Rayburn, and we have a son named Noah who is 2, and another child on the way. We have two cats (Sophie and Shadow) and one dog (Maddie). I like to go to the movies, go to the shooting range, grow different fruits and vegetables in our garden, and cook. When I am not doing any of those activities, I like to spend time with my family and friends.

What is something other people find most surprising to learn about you?

I have a musical background and have played the trumpet, guitar, bass, and sung in a choir.

What is your favorite thing about Martin?

I love the rural farmland with the small-town feel and always getting to see people I know when I am out and about.

Why did you choose to stay there?

We are close to our family in the area and we have made a lot of relationships with people in our area who have become close with us. Not having urban traffic is a plus.
